The John R. Williams Tournament

Due to the heavy rain yesterday afternoon,
the following changes to the schedule have been made:

The Senior Division starting times have been moved
to 11:30 AM off the first tee of the East.

The Mid AM division will go off as planned on the
front and back of the West as originally scheduled.

Carts will be available on both golf course.

Please be mindful of all ropes and stakes
as we had a lot of rain yesterday.

IMPORTANT NEWS:
The 2011 John R. Williams Four-Ball Tournament will be played on Wednesday, September 28-Saturday, October 1, 2011. This is so that we can accommodate all players who may be participating in the 2011 US Mid-Am, which is scheduled during our normal week in September.

This will be a one-year change as we will return to our normal dates during the third week in September in 2012.

Tournament History

Originated over 50 years ago as “Oak Hill Scratch Best-Ball Tournament”, and played over the historic East Course from championship tees, the tournament’s four-ball format has received national attention. Throughout the years the field has been composed of nationally ranked amateur players.

In 1961 the tournament was renamed for a distinguished past member of Oak Hill, Dr. John R. Williams. “The Williams” is a fitting tribute to the trees that made Oak Hill world famous. It was by his hand that many of Oak Hill’s trees were planted.

Former winners include Andy North, 1978 and 1985 U.S. Open Champion; Dick Siderowf, British Amateur Champion; Don Allen, two-time Walker Cup player and six-time New York State Amateur Champion; and more recently, Danny Green, 1999 U.S. Mid-Amateur Champion and Senior Division Winner, Bill Ploeger, 1999 U.S. Senior Amateur Champion and a host of other fine players from throughout the U.S. and Canada.

The Will-Am

In 1981, the John R. Williams committee introduced an opportunity for members to play with contestant teams during their practice round on the day prior to the start of the event. In its current format, 32 member teams play with 24 mid-am division teams and 8 senior division teams on Wednesday afternoon. The “Will-Am” tournament is followed by a casual dinner for all participants immediately after the completion of play. Please indicate on the invitation request whether you wish to play in the “Will-Am”. Other entrants may play a practice round on Wednesday morning, but must clear the East Course by 1:00 p.m.
