IMPORTANT NEWS: The 2011 John R. Williams Four-Ball Tournament will be played on Wednesday, September 28-Saturday, October 1, 2011. This is so that we can accommodate all players who may be participating in the 2011 US Mid-Am, which is scheduled during our normal week in September.
This will be a one-year change as we will return to our normal dates during the third week in September in 2012.
Tournament History
Originated over 50 years ago as “Oak Hill Scratch Best-Ball Tournament”, and played over the historic East Course from championship tees, the tournament’s four-ball format has received national attention. Throughout the years the field has been composed of nationally ranked amateur players.
In 1961 the tournament was renamed for a distinguished past member of Oak Hill, Dr. John R. Williams. “The Williams” is a fitting tribute to the trees that made Oak Hill world famous. It was by his hand that many of Oak Hill’s trees were planted.
Former winners include Andy North, 1978 and 1985 U.S. Open Champion; Dick Siderowf, British Amateur Champion; Don Allen, two-time Walker Cup player and six-time New York State Amateur Champion; and more recently, Danny Green, 1999 U.S. Mid-Amateur Champion and Senior Division Winner, Bill Ploeger, 1999 U.S. Senior Amateur Champion and a host of other fine players from throughout the U.S. and Canada. |
